In a series of flashbacks told after his death, we watch Charles Foster Kane becomes one of the richest and most powerful men in America. He marries the president’s niece and even has an adoring son and yet he still isn’t satisfied. Then he loses almost all of it, retreats to his secluded palace, and dies wishing for the simplicity of his childhood. Citizen Kane has repeatedly been called the greatest movie ever made. But it makes RP’s list of “movies worth watching” not because it is so very entertaining, but rather because it is a tragedy so famous it can be used in casual conversations with gentiles to discuss the futility of life without God.
